How to Make Acne-Prone Skin Flawless for Your Wedding Day

You never know when a pimple is going to appear, and those suckers just find a way to pop up at the worst possible times. Especially when you add in the stress of planning a wedding.

If you think that all you can do is hope with your fingers crossed for your skin to be on its best behavior on your wedding day, you're wrong! You can plan ahead by taking vitamins that can help clear your skin (at least 2 months before your big day). To help you avoid throwing a tantrum while seriously considering the idea of wearing a paper bag over your head as you walk down the aisle, take a peek at how a variety of vitamins and minerals can get your acne under control before your wedding day.

There are a combination of vitamins, minerals, and herbs that generate benefits to the skin when taken daily. Not only do vitamins help your skin maintain its health, but they also give your acne-prone skin a healthy glow. Now that's the kind of skin you want on your big day.

Whether you have acne-prone skin or regular type of skin, here's how it works:

With vitamin A, an essential antioxidant, skin cell growth cycles will speed up, strengthening your skin's protective tissue, and keeping your sebaceous gland activity in check. This means that pores will be smaller, less oil will be produced, and scars and existing pimples will disappear or fade as your dead skin cells quickly shed. Vitamins C and E will slow down the rate of free radical damage to your body, which means that you'll have less dry skin, fine wrinkles, and lines. Vitamin D3 will act as a defense system for your skin, fighting the acne-causing bacteria, and keeping any new pimples from finding a way to ruin your day. Undoubtedly your stress levels will be at an all time high, which is why you also need vitamin B2. Vitamin B2 is essential for healthy skin, hair, and nails because it helps improve digestive health, plays an important part in growth and energy levels, and is a stress reducer.

Other nutrients include vitamins K2, B6, B12, iodine, zinc, magnesium, evening primrose oil, organic turmeric, and Vitex (Chaste Tree Berry). These are just a fraction of the kind of vitamins you need to help retain healthy, clear skin, which means that those are definitely a fraction of the skincare benefits you could be receiving through vitamins. You would not think that vitamins could really do that for something like your skin but they can and they do. And more importantly, everything is natural. All these different vitamins and minerals work together to improve your skin's overall health and complexion, and when it comes to your special day, you should not take any chances. Makeup and cover-ups can only do so much, and checking your face every 10 seconds for uncoovered pimples is a terrible way to spend your wedding day. So, if you have acne-prone skin, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Dermatology Solutions for Common Skin Problems

Providing a number of vital functions, the skin is the body's first line of defense against bacteria and parasites. Waste and toxins are also expelled from the body through pores all over the body. Humans are incredibly conscious of the fact that their skin is also a reflection of overall well-being. Consulting with a dermatologist about treatments for medical conditions and cosmetic concerns can help you look and feel the very best.

A dermatologist is a specialized medical professional focused on treating various skin concerns from burns to psoriasis and even melanoma. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, specialists treat more than 3,000 different diseases, as well as treat patients for cosmetic conditions like acne scars, wrinkles, and other signs of aging. Cancer side, many of the conditions treated by a doctor specializing in dermatology are not life threatening. They may not even cause the patient any real physical discomfort. However, most people come to a specialist to treat these conditions because they can affect our self-confidence and social tendencies.

One of the most common conditions treated by dermatologists is acne. Thought by many to be a medical condition that only affects teens, acne actually afflicts millions of adults. Acne is caused by a combination of overactive oil glands, unbalanced hormones, stress, poor diet, and comedogenic makeup. Psychologists confirm that feeling isolated and depressed as a result of severe acne and chronic breakouts is a very real phenomenon. Fortunately, there are a number of different treatments available at dermatology clinics. If you feel that you could benefit from acne treatment, keep in mind that doctors advise that treating acne takes time and that there is no one-size-fits-all solution.

Rosacea is another condition that is not necessarily harmful, but can be embarrassing for those who suffer from it. This condition is most commonly thought of as facial redness, but it can also include swelling, small pimples on the cheeks, visible blood vessels, and increased sensitivity to weather conditions and temperature. Unfortunately, rosacea can not be cured. However, you can work with your dermatologist to identify triggers activating the condition, find proper medication, and create a proper cleansing and moisturizing regimen to control it.

A dermatology specialist can resolve even skin concerns unrelated to any medical cause. While signs of aging such as wrinkles and crow's feet are the most common concerns, patients often seek advice for other cosmetic issues that affect their confidence. Scars from acne, surgery, and trauma can be reduced with laser resurfacing treatment. Lasers can also be used to remove tattoos. Moles can also be disturbing. Some people, like Cindy Crawford and Marilyn Monroe, have moles that are perfectly placed and are referred to as, “beauty marks.” Unfortunately, for most other people moles are not always ideally located on the body. It may be unsightly or othersome, but a dermatologist can safely remove it.

Although not all skin conditions pose a threat to our physical health, they can affect our mental well-being. Treatment for common skin concerns are readily available with a dermatologist, who can help you confront these problems directly and resolve them.

New Therapy for Keratosis Pilaris

What is Keratosis Pilaris?

Keratosis Pilaris, often abbreviated to 'KP', is a very common benign dry skin condition that affects 40% of the population. It most frequently appears at puberty, developing in up to 80% of adolescents, although it can appear at any age. It has a number of forms, the most common being the appearance of rough bumps around hair follicles on the back of the arms. Some redness may be present around the bumps. This appearance gives rise to the common name given to KP of 'chicken skin'. It can also occur on other areas of the body such as the thighs, buttocks and cheeks, although it does not occur on the palms of the hands or the soles of the feet. Although not a serious condition, many people find KP unsightly and distracting. It varies in severity and there is no recognized cure.

What causes it?

Skin produces a natural protein, keratin, which is an important part of its outer layer. KP occurs when excess keratin is produced, and together with dead skin cells builds up inside hair follicles. This process, called hyperkeratination, causes the formation of hard keratin plugs, causing bumps rather like the appearance of 'goose bumps'. Hairs can become trapped in the follicle and coil in on themselves.

Why have I got it?

The cause of KP is unknown, although it appears to be a genetic condition inherited in a dominant fashion. This means that if either of your parents has the condition, then you stand a 50% chance of developing KP, as do your offspring if you are affected. It is more common in adolescence, gradually decreasing in severity over the years. It is closely related to other dry skin conditions, and tend to get worse in cold weather when the humidity is lower. The condition can vary with the seasons, and sometimes with different hormonal states, such as pregnancy.

What can I do about it?

There is no cure for KP, but its appearance can be improved with regular moisturization and exfoliation.

General advice would include keeping the skin well hydrated especially during the winter months when moistur levels in the air are lower and the problem can become more pronounced. Avoid extreme bathing temperatures and use the mildest soap free cleansers. As temptation as it is, do not pick at the bumps as inflammation and scarring may result.

Manual exfoliation can be useful in moderation, but you can not scrub the bumps away. Many natural and synthetic loofah type products can be abrasive, and exacerbate the problem.

How To Get Rid Of Clogged Pores In 6 Simple Steps

We all know that clogged pores are inevitable. But, if we do some changes to our skin care routine, the clogged pores will be reduced significantly. Clogged pores are the start to many skin problems especially enlarged pores. When your pores are clogged with oil residues, dead skin cells and dirt, your pores will be stretched since many visible large pores on the face. On the other hand, if each pore on your skin is clean and empty, the appearance of pores will not be visible and your skin will look so much more refined! So, it is very important to maintain the following steps daily to ensure you maintain a nice complexion before you need to know how to tighten pores.

Step 1 – Remove Your Makeup / Sunscreen

Practice this step even if you only have sunscreen on your face. Skincare products with SPF like BB creams, tinted moisturizers and sunscreens are usually water and sweat resistant. So, it could be difficult to thoroughly wash off with just a normal face wash.

Try using gentle oil based makeup removers. Cleansing oils are not just great for removing waterproof makeups; they are also very effective in lifting up oil residues and impurities from your pores. Try not to use cotton pad for oil cleansers. Instead, use your fingers to gently massage the face thoroughly with the oil makeup remover, and then rinse off with lukewarm water.

Step 2 – Wash Your Face

Pores look enlarged and more noticeable if they are clogged with dirt and oil. The grit and grime will stretch the pores out making them look large. So, washing your face is the most essential step in your daily rule. Use a gentle cleanser if you have sensitive skin, a foam cleanser if you have oily skin and oil / non-foaming cleansers if you have dry skin. For acne pronone skin, you may want to use a cleanser that contains anti-bacterial ingredients in it.

Step 3 – Steam Your Face To Open Up The Pores

Use a face steamer if you have it at home. If not, follow the steps below: –

Fill up a pot with water and boil it on a stove. Once steam starts to appear, remove the pot from the heat.

You can add few drops of essential oil to the hot water for relaxation purpose or tea tree oil if you are suffering from acne.

Place a towel over your head and lean over the steaming water. Tent the towel over your shoulders and the pot so that the steam is directed to your face. Leave it to steam for about 5-10 minutes.

Step 4 – Exfoliate Your Skin

While the pores are open now, it is a good time to get into the pores and get rid of stubborn impurities, dead skin cells and oil residues that face cleanser alone could not get rid of. There are a daily method and a weekly exfoliating method that I recommend you to use.

Method 1 – Facial brushing

Facial brushing effectively opens up the pores on your skin. This is something that can be done on a daily basis. This method is very effective in removing dead skin cells, boosting blood circulation, enhancing lymphatic drainage and most importantly getting getting rid of toxins. You may use it together with a face cleanser or just do a dry skin brushing. Remember to choose a face brush with soft but firm bristles.

Note: For a start, it is recommended to try face brushing 3 times a week. Only after your skin is used to this method, then you may do this once daily.

Method 2 – Use facial scrubs

Facial scrubs contain micro particles / beads in gel and cream form that help to sloughs off dead skin cells and remove pore's impurities. This will help enhance the penetration of all the skin care that you apply to your skin. Facial scrubs are easily available in any beauty and drug stores. However, I prefer homemade ones as they are made from 100% natural ingredients and I will know what I put on my skin. Of course the best reason is homemade ones cost just a tiny fraction of the retail price and the ingredients are readily available in our kitchen! My favorite recipe would be the following: –

Baking Soda Face Scrub

Ingredients – 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of water

Directions – Add water to the baking soda and mix well until smooth paste is formed. Apply the paste onto your face and gently massage the face. Avoid eye area. Rinse off with water.

Result – Smooth and bright skin instantly!

Step 5 – Do Deep Cleansing Facial Mask

There are many types of facial mask out there that cater to different needs. However, in order to effectively cleanse our pores, we need to do frequent deep cleansing mask. This type of mask is readily available in health and beauty stores but you can also make on your own. I highly recommend clay masks and peel off masks as they work by pulling out impurities that clogged pores.

Do try my Homemade Deep Cleansing Black Mask which uses clay and activated charcoal as the main ingredient. The recipe is very effective in keeping the skin clear because the activated charcoal used will help draw out impurities and toxins from the skin. Green clay is also another good ingredient that not just absorbs toxins, it will also help drawing out blackheads and cleanse your pores.

Homemade Deep Cleansing Black Mask

Ingredients: –

2 capsules of activated carbon (remove capsule and pour out the black powder)

Te teaspoon of green clay

1 teaspoon of water

Directions: –

1) Mix all the ingredients together to form a smooth paste.

2) Apply onto the face. Avoid eye area.

3) Leave it to dry then rinse off with cold water.

Note: Please make sure to stir the mixture with a plastic or wooden spoon, as both charcoal and clay pull toxins from metals.

Step 6 – Splash With Cold Water

Finish off your territory with splashing your face with cold water. You can also use ice cubes to shrink large pores. It is an instant remedy that can be used before you use your makeup. This will immediately shrink the size of the open pores and help in leaving the skin smooth looking and also prevent the makeup from entering the big pores thereby reducing the risk of clogged pores, acne, and infections. Take ice cubes, wrap them in cloth, and apply to your face with gentle pressure. This will have a tightening effect on your skin.

Do give yourself about 2-3 weeks time before visible improvements and if you like to learn more effective homemade recipes on how to get rid of clogged pores as well as how to minimize pores , please visit my website to get more tips. Stay beautiful!

Jojoba Oil: The Skin’s Best Friend

Jojoba Oil is a natural extract that can work wonders on the skin thanks to its sebum-like chemical structure.

Contrary to its name, Jojoba Oil is not really an oil. It is actually a wax ester extracted from the seed of the jojoba tree, scientifically known as Simmondsia chinenis. Ironically, despite being not an oil, it is extremely similar to the oil that the human skin produces (sebum). Because of this, it makes for the perfect multi-purpose beauty product.

Manufacturers have taken note of the jojoba oil's wonderful qualities and have been using it as a vital ingredient in their skin care products. Some examples would be sunblock, acne treatments, and moisturizing lotions. Its multi-functionality comes from the fact that it has endless benefits. It has also become a much superior substitute for whale oil which has been banned in the United States since 1971.

According to many, compared to whale oil it has more possibilities in the cosmetics industry and it garners far better results. Also, unlike the harsh production of whale oil that requires the endangerment of whales, it is very easy to produce and extract. After all the jojoba tree can be found in the United States, Australia, Mexico, and Mexico; abundance of sources and none of them include the butchery of animals.

Another amazing thing about the jojoba oil is that it can still be used in its pure unrefined state. On its own, it can already work as a moisturizer, hair conditioner, shave prep, massage oil, make-up remover, and lip balm. Because it is very similar to the human sebum, it can give the same benefits that the sebum does.

Once applied on the skin, it can balance the oil that your body produces; leaving your skin clear, healthy, and free of that greasy feeling. As a hair-care product, it is also very effective as it can soak deep into the scalp, removing all unnecessary sebum and dirt while moisturizing your hair from the inside.

It is also non-comedogenic which means that people who are susceptible to acne do not need to worry when using it. Because it does not easily evaporate like water-based moisturizers, it can provide optimal moisturization all day long. Its chemical structure is also very stable, meaning you can store it for as long as you want and it will not lose all its antioxidant qualities and become rancid. And because it is organic, there are no harmful chemicals like GMOs or pesticides. The jojoba oil is the ultimate all-natural secret to the perfect skin.

Things That Damage Skin – Bad Skin Habits

Your skin is one of the most precious organs of the body, and in order for it to remain healthy and supple, it requires daily care and continual maintenance, especially as you age. There are a variety of bad skin habits that can contribute to damaged skin, dry skin, and dull skin tone, and as time goes on, these habits can often lead to permanent skin issues. The good news is that there is still time to turn your bad skin habits around in order to prevent permanent damage, allowing for a healthy and natural glow. Listed below are a variety of aspects that can lead to damaged skin, as well as tips on reversing the damage.

Hydration is the key to beautiful and youthful skin, and many times, people have no idea that their skin is dehydrated. There are several factors that can lead to dry skin, ranging from lifestyle habits to environmental factors, to simply not drinking enough water during the day. If you suffer from dry skin, this can lead to premature wrinkles and rough patches, as well as redness and irritation. Vitamin E works well when it comes to treating dry skin, as it is known for its healing properties and its ability to lock in moisture. For strictly dry skin, it is best to exfoliate the skin first with an all-natural scrub that contains sugar or sea salt, and follow up with a thick application of Vitamin E oil. Vitamin E oil can be sticky when in high concentrations, so mixing it with Vitamin E cream will help to liquefy the oil, and allow for deeper absorption.

Sun Exposure

A little sun goes a long way, and while a small amount of sun is good for your skin as well as for your Vitamin D levels, too much sun can lead to sun spots, dry skin, premature wrinkling, and worst of all, skin cancer. It is always a good idea to apply sun block with an SPF of at least 15 whenever you are planning to spend time in the sun, as this will help to protect your skin while still allowing a touch of sun to come through. All-natural sunscreens are best, as they contain healing and nourishing ingredients such as Vitamin E and aloe, and these ingredients work to replenish the skin as well.

While it is definitely important to have clean skin, some people take this practice too far when it comes to exfoliation and scrubbing the skin with a buffing pad or loofah. When exfoliating, it is important to gently scrub the skin in clock-wise circles as opposed to rough scrubbing the skin up and down. Rough scrubbing can lead to abrasions, which in turn can lead to scarring as well as skin eruptions.

In Conclusion

It is perfectly normal to pick up some bad habits here and there when it comes to skin care, and the unfortunate reality is that severely damaged skin is often hard to repair. The good news, however is that there are simple ways to not only avoid skin damage, but to treat skin damage as well. Taking care of your skin through gentle exfoliation, deep yet gentle cleansing, avoiding excessive sun exposure, and daily and evening moisturizing treatments can aid in renewing your dull complexion in a safe and natural fashion. It is important to remember that your skin is one of the most sensitive organs of the body, and it needs to be treated with care in order to remain healthy, beautiful, youthful and supple. By taking the time to Incorporate a healthy skin care regime into your life, you will find that the damage is minimized and your skin will regain its youthful and beautiful glow.

What Is Rosacea? It’s Symptoms, and Some Effective Treatments

Rosacea is a skin problem that affects countless people, triggering redness and rough skin patches. It triggers redness of the face, neck, chest, as well as the eyes. Rosacea leaves the skin extremely tender and intolerable to additional redness. So much so that even face cleansing, as an example, needs to be done with care using a non-soap cleanser, no scrubbing. The heat of the shower, the heat of the hair dryer, the rushing around, the cold wind on the cheeks can cause the face-flushing or blushing associated with Rosacea.

Believe it's an odd, unknown skin problem not typically experienced? Think again. A brief (very short) list of famous people with Rosacea includes: Cameron Diaz, former president Bill Clinton, both Prince William and mother Princess Diana, 1930's comedian WC Fields, to name just a few.

Clinically speaking, Rosacea is the existence of too many melanosomes, which are melanin pigmentation “particles” present in the skin's pigment cells (Melanocytes). Rosacea patients' bodies over-utilize tyrosinase, the actual enzyme responsible for melanin production. So Rosacea could be viewed as a two-fold issue: 1) a lack of breakdown of melanosomes and 2) overlay active tyrosinase leading to excess melanin production.

A few facts, usual symptoms, and triggers of Rosacea:

– Symptoms commonly begin as being quickly “flushed in the face” or “blushing” with ease.

– Left without treatment, nose, cheeks, and other areas of the face gradually darken with noticeable blood vessels and soreness.

– Symptoms typically, not always, but often begin around age 35 to 50.

– Although often seen in people with darker skin, Rosacea is most common in fair skinned, blonde haired, and blue eyed people.

– Over use of skin treatments, excess direct sun exposure, and very often stress are common triggering events of Rosacea.

– Although drinking is frequently connected with Rosacea, it is not a reason for the condition.

Known Rosacea Treatments

First of all, if you believe you could have Rosacea or you know you have it but are not actually doing anything to treat it, the watchwords should be: First, do no harm! Second, treat it! Rosacea leaves the skin very tender and susceptible to additional soreness, sensitivity, and inflammation. If left untreated, Rosacea can become a condition called rhinophyma: the familiar bulbous, misshapen, oversized nose, such as that of WC Fields.

Get Rosacea under control and under the supervision of a dermatologist. They will likely suggest an oral antibiotic in combination with a topical cream. The Rosacea cream recommended most by skin specialists and doctors, the one considered the most effective for Rosacea, is hydroquinone. As the principal ingredient found in numerous skin care products intended to lighten or correct skin pigmentation attributable to age spots, dark spots, freckles, acne marks, etc, it turns out to also work well for Rosacea. And, mercifully, the cheaper, non-prescription strength hydroquinone 2% works the best for Rosacea. Remember, the two-fold Rosacea cause is 1) a lack of breakdown of melanosomes and 2) overlay active tyrosinase? Hydroquinone cream solves both of these by preventing the enzymatic activity of tyrosinase which, in turn, increases the breakdown of melanosomes.

From a practical perspective, Rosacea patients must minimize direct exposure to the sun. And especially while using a hydroquinone based skin lightening cream, eliminate sun direct exposure to the treated area completely. This is incredibly important but really rather simple to accomplish with a good broad spectrum, SPF 30 sunscreen, hat, gloves, and other protective clothing.

So, even though fun in the hot sun, on the beach, or at the swimming pool is pretty much out of the question, getting Rosacea under control is important and really do-able. Do not suffer. Do not neglect it. Do not let it become something worse.

Skin Stain Remover

Cheap, frugal, on a budget, these terms and phrases are not always bad. Performed properly these characteristics can lead to a debt free, stress free life! But some things may be worth the time and money that is costs to ensure a nice healthy look (physical appearance that is). I grew up in the north where the dirt was brown and it's fairly easy to grow a garden or plant just about anything you would like. Then … I moved to the South. Down here I think all of the red ants ate the brown dirt then regurgitated it creating an unsightly earthly element that you need a back ho to dig up at times. This red clay is also some of the toughest muck to get out of your nails and hands. How do I know? Well one day while taking a shower my water stopped draining, as that was happening my tubs started backing up and my toilets started making weird noises (yes this meant I was standing in my own liquid). This come to find out mean my septic tank was backed up (by the way I was not aware I had one until this occurred a couple months ago). So instead of spending about $ 500 having someone come out I got dressed, grabbed a shovel and began to dig. 4 feet down and about 45 minutes later I found the lid, removed it and unclogged the drain. Fill the hole and now back to the shower. I wash up and then look at my hands, for some reason they still look dirty (that nasty clay). Well I definitely do not feel like driving to buy some orange pumice so I grab my shampoo (head and shoulders) and like magic it works! What I found was that there are certain chemicals in shampoos not found in soaps that give a more thorough washing (sulfates, chlorides, betaines and other weird toxins), makes you think about the health of your scalp. So the tip is wash your hands using shampoo if their ultra dirty for a simple at home skin stain remover.

Here's an extra smell good tip of the day for reading:

If you ever want to smell good longer and better than those around you, take your cologne and spray your hair. Yes, the hair on your scalp. The cologne smells longer longer in the hair and provides your head with a smell that it normally does not have.
